Softball Recap: Taos Comes Up Short

Taos extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Moriarty Pintos. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pintos this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-0 loss two weeks ago.

As for Moriarty, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Moriarty, who have now won 15 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Moriarty's part, Isabella Gallegos made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gallegos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Moriarty got a massive performance out of Emma Rodriguez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kristina Means, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taos will face off against Pojoaque Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Elks/Elkettes have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Moriarty, they will square off against Espanola Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
