Last Friday, Marietta was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-40 to Hillgrove.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kayla Day, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Campbell waltzed into their contest on Thursday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They snuck past Carrollton with a 51-47 win.
Marietta has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season. As for Campbell, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-7.
Marietta was able to grind out a solid win over Campbell in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 67-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marietta since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
