The Camden County Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Camden County has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Camden County managed to slip by Currituck County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Camden County lost 11-3 to Currituck County on Wednesday. The contest marked the Bruins' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Audrey Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emma Young also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Fuqua 17-3. Considering the Gators have won four matches by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Haleigh Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Murphy was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Greenbrier Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Cora Smith, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Katelyn Balka was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Greenbrier Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Greenbrier Christian Academy pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Camden County, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Camden County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452. However, it's not like Greenbrier Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .554. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
