Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Mater Dei Catholic was the 66-52 winner over Patrick Henry when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Crusaders fell 54-50 to the Patriots on Wednesday.

Patrick Henry had a senior duo take command as Isaac Weatherred posted 25 points and six rebounds and Alexander Newlands dropped a double-double with 12 points and 18 boards. Weatherred's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Owen Andersen, who earned three points and eight boards.

Mater Dei Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Patrick Henry, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Mater Dei Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-54 loss against Mission Bay on the 18th. Patrick Henry will take on San Ysidro in a holiday battle at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.57 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
