Basketball Game Preview: Albany Cougars vs. Vallejo Redhawks

The Albany Cougars will face off against the Vallejo Redhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Albany has five straight victories, Vallejo has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Albany is headed into the game having just posted their biggest win since January 30, 2024 on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 59-25 victory over Hercules. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Titans are ranked 980th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Vallejo played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 85-26 loss at the hands of Salesian College Preparatory. The Redhawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-13.

Albany is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Vallejo, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.

Albany was able to grind out a solid win over Vallejo in their previous matchup on January 4th, winning 52-40. Will Albany repeat their success, or does Vallejo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
