Baseball Recap: Donegal's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak on the Road

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Donegal and Ephrata, and Ephrata kept the tradition alive. The Donegal Indians fell just short of the Ephrata Mountaineers by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Tommy Hairhoger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Donegal saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devin Bailey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Donegal's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Ephrata, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Donegal will venture away from home to face off against Governor Mifflin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ephrata, they will challenge Manheim Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
