Basketball Recap: Miami-Yoder Comes Up Short

Miami-Yoder played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 63-27 loss at the hands of the Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders. The defeat continues a trend for the Buffaloes in their meetings with the Highlanders: they've now lost four in a row.

Jesus Cruz and Julian Beltran certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Cruz posted ten points and five boards, while Beltran scored seven points and three steals. Cruz has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played.

Thomas MacLaren School was led to victory by Lance Mathews and Nathaniel Dillavou. Mathews dropped a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Dillavou shot 56% from the field on his way to 21 points and eight boards. Those eight rebounds gave Dillavou a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caiden Zoerb-Orta, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Miami-Yoder's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Thomas MacLaren School, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Miami-Yoder will face off against Calhan at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Thomas MacLaren School, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Monument Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders will be up against the Lynx's rather soft defense (which has allowed 58.64 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
