Basketball Recap: Calvary Day Falls Short of St. Francis in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Calvary Day can now relate to. They were outmatched by the St. Francis Knights and fell 86-48. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th in Georgia, while the Knights are ranked ninth in Georgia).

Calvary Day's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bre Jones, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 16 points and six assists. Destini Gooddine was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Calvary Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

St. Francis' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Desi Taylor, who posted 21 points and five assists. Taylor's big performance that morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of G Rogers, who had 20 points and six rebounds.

Calvary Day's loss dropped their record down to 19-10. As for St. Francis, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-2.

Calvary Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Francis, they will challenge Holy Innocents Episcopal on Friday. Holy Innocents Episcopal will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something St. Francis surely won't give up without a fight.
