Preview: St. Mary's vs. St. Boniface Catholic Classical

St. Mary has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against St. Boniface Catholic Classical at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

St. Mary's scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Friday. They rang in the new year with a 73-60 victory over Athens Christian Preparatory Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

St. Mary's success was spearheaded by the efforts of John Brogan, who scored 23 points along with two steals, and Evan Hodge, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hodge pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taylor Darnell, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Meanwhile, St. Boniface Catholic Classical's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Athens Christian Preparatory Academy at home and fell 66-27. St. Boniface Catholic Classical has not had much luck with Athens Christian Preparatory Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 7-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for St. Boniface Catholic Classical, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Everything came up roses for St. Mary's against St. Boniface Catholic Classical in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 73-24 win. With St. Mary's ahead 43-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
