Basketball Recap: Fort Bend Kempner's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Fort Bend Kempner ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 62-55 victory over the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 900th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Lamar Consolidated saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Edgar Garcia went 8 of 15 en route to 25 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Riq Lane, who posted 12 points and five assists.

Fort Bend Kempner is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Lamar Consolidated, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Coincidentally, Fort Bend Kempner and Lamar Consolidated will both be playing Randle the next time they take the court. Lamar Consolidated will head out to face Randle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Fort Bend Kempner will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
