High school football: Aledo's incredible 1,000-point season tops look at highest-scoring teams in history

By Kevin Askeland Sep 2, 2021, 1:00pm

Ten-time Texas champion Bearcats also appear five different teams in top 100 list.

Aledo (Texas) won a record 10th state title in 2020 and has been the winningest high school football program over the past decade with 143 victories. The Bearcats also have been the highest scoring team in the nation during the that span.

Five Aledo teams finished among the top 100 highest scoring seasons of all-time, including the No. 1 team with 1,023 points in 2013. The Bearcats captured the Class 4A state championship that season and became the only high school football team to score over 1,000 points.

However, Aledo has two other teams in the top 16 with the 2011 squad scoring 885 points and the 2016 team scoring 883. The 2019 team ranks 50th all-time with 815 points while the 2018 team is tied for 56th with 811 points.

Refugio can match Aledo with five appearances in the top 100, including a high of 901 points, good for seventh place. Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa, Pa.), Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) all make the list three times.

Sources for the list include the NFHS Record Book, state association record books, Texas High School Football History, Cal-Hi Sports Record Book and the MaxPreps leaderboards.
Aledo celebrates its 10th Texas state title last year. The Bearcats also own the highest-scoring season in high school football history with 1,023 points in 2013.
