Recap: Starmount Rams vs. Alleghany Trojans
The Starmount Rams lost a heartbreaker to the Alleghany Trojans when they met back in February of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. Starmount took a 57-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alleghany. Starmount has struggled against Alleghany recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Starmount lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lucas Collins. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Collins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Colton Allen was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Alleghany's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zander Russell, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mack Lemasters, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Starmount has not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Alleghany, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
Starmount will look to defend their home court on Friday against South Stokes at 8:00 p.m. One thing working in South Stokes' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests. As for Alleghany, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elkin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alleghany is facing Elkin at the right time seeing as Elkin is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
