Softball Recap: North Central Knights vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers
North Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Andrew Jackson on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Volunteers by a score of 5-4. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 6-4 to the Volunteers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mackenzie Melton put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over nine innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
Melton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carleigh Wallace, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
North Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Andrew Jackson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Coming up, North Central will venture away from home to face off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Central is facing Central at the right time seeing as Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Andrew Jackson, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Rock Hill at 7:00 p.m. Rock Hill has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.63 runs per game on average), something Andrew Jackson will no doubt try to take advantage of.
