Softball Recap: Mcewen Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Stewart County, McEwen was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Houston County Fighting Irish a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-3 back in March.

Ava Lastovka made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Lastovka wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Laila Downs-Darden, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

McEwen's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Houston County, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, McEwen will challenge Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 2.4, the Tigers 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Houston County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
