Recap: Pearl River Pirates vs. Lakeland Hornets

It was a good run, but The Pearl River Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. The match between Pearl River and Lakeland wasn't particularly close, with Pearl River falling 35-21. Pearl River lost against Lakeland in their previous head to head back in October of 2014, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 28-27 score last time.

Lakeland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grady Leonard, who threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Kyle Gallagher, who picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Pearl River's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Lakeland, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pearl River will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Tappan Zee at 6:00 p.m. on November 8th. Tappan Zee will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Lakeland, they will head out on the road to face off against Pleasantville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pleasantville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Lakeland likes a good challenge.
