Volleyball Recap: Waterloo's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Waterloo couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 3-1 to the Heritage Christian Patriots on Saturday. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Waterloo started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18.

Lina Schmidt paced Waterloo's offense, picking up ten kills. Schmidt got some help from Emma Crave and her 14 assists. Lilli Lauersdorf controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Leading Heritage Christian to victory were Nina Dorger and Ainsley Ellis. Dorger had 13 digs and one assist, while Ellis hit 60% for six kills and three digs and three aces. Ellis has been hot for a while, having also posted 14 or more assists the last 14 times she's played.

Waterloo's loss dropped their record down to 24-10. As for Heritage Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 22 of their last 23 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 37-6 record this season.

Waterloo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heritage Christian, they will challenge Montello on Thursday.
