Basketball Game Preview: Edinburg Wildcats vs. Litchfield Purple Panthers

The Edinburg Wildcats just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Litchfield Purple Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Edinburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Litchfield likes a good challenge.

On Monday, Edinburg beat Mulberry Grove 70-58. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Aces are ranked 601st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Litchfield can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Nokomis out 36-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Purple Panthers have posted since December 8, 2023.

Litchfield had a senior duo take command as Brayden Ronco went 6 for 15 on his way to 14 points and Nate Schaake posted ten points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. That's the most blocks Schaake has posted since back in December of 2023.

Litchfield's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9. As for Edinburg, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.

Edinburg strolled past Litchfield when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 62-47. Does Edinburg have another victory up their sleeve, or will Litchfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
