Basketball Recap: Cibola Comes Up Short

Cibola and La Cueva squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Cibola had to settle for second. They fell 65-56 to the La Cueva Bears. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 58-55.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Cueva to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Trujillo, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 17 points and five boards. Trujillo's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Hunter Butler was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Cibola has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-11 record this season. La Cueva has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Cibola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Cueva, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 82-48 defeat against Volcano Vista on the 12th.
