Lakewood had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They secured a 26-20 W over the North Duplin Rebels on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Leopards as they're now sitting on five straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reed Ammons, who threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes. The dominant performance gave Ammons a new career-high in passing yards. Lakewood also got a significant boost from Calvin Lacewell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 104 yards.
When it comes to explaining why North Duplin lost, don't look at Carell Phillips. Despite the final result, he rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Phillips is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.
