Softball Recap: Springfield Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fairborn, Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Miamisburg Vikings. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Leeauna Rardon spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alayna Strayer, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caelyn Cave, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Springfield's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-8. As for Miamisburg, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Coming up, Springfield will host Trotwood-Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Miamisburg will be paying especially close attention to the Wildcats' matchup: after the Wildcats face off against the Rams, they'll take on Miamisburg again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
