Softball Recap: Southern's Loss Ends 16-Game Winning Streak at Home

Southern dropped their record down to 13-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Wahama White Falcons, falling 21-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tornadoes have suffered since March 25th.

As for Wahama, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Considering they have won 13 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Wahama's part, Elissa Hoffman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Hoffman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Kalyn Christian was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kate Reynolds was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Southern will venture away from home to take on Belpre at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tornadoes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Wahama, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Williamstown at 5:30 p.m. The timing is sure in the White Falcons' favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Yellowjackets have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
