Three Illinois players make commitments

Coe and Flavin choose Big Ten; Raffelson, Venegoni go with Western Illinois.

Three Illinois football players committed to college programs over the past week:

* Rodney Coe, a 230-pound, 6-foot-3 running back at Edwardsville, verbaled his commitment to Iowa. He had multiple of offers from other major-college schools, including Illinois, Kansas and Florida.

* Pat Flavin, a 260-pound, 6-foot-7 offensive lineman at Benet Academy in Lisle, verbaled to Illinois. Flavin had more than 20 other scholarship offers, including California, Purdue, Boston College and Indiana. He verbaled to the Illini less than a week after making his official campus visit.

* J.J. Raffelson, an Illinois All-State linebacker at Class 7A finalist Lake Zurich, verbaled his commitment to Western Illinois. Raffelson, 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, led the Bears with 23 sacks and 114 tackles. He had also received interest from Indiana, Iowa and Illinois. Also verbaling to Western Illinois was Luke Venegoni, a 6-foot-2 linebacker at Mundelein Carmel Catholic. Venegoni chose Western Illinois over South Dakota State.
