Volleyball Recap: Warsaw's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

If Warsaw was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Homestead on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell just short of the Penn Kingsmen by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Kingsmen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Warsaw took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9.

Despite the loss, Warsaw still got an impressive performance from Ellie Hepler, who had 34 digs and two aces. Hepler is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season.

Penn was led to victory by Abby Lane and Montana Swartz. Lane had 31 digs and three aces, while Swartz had 27 assists and ten digs. That's the most aces Lane has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Petty, who had ten digs and two aces.

Warsaw moved to 6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Penn, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

Penn has already played their next match, a 3-0 win against South Bend Saint Joseph on the 28th. Hopefully Warsaw paid attention to the Kingsmen's game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Kingsmen at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
