Basketball Recap: Capitan Takes a Loss

Capitan was the 37-33 winner over Mesilla Valley Christian School when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Capitan Tigers took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers on Saturday. The Tigers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Mesilla Valley Christian School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nevaeh Benjamin out in front who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards. Benjamin has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Katey Black was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3.

Coming up, Capitan will head out on the road to face off against Cloudcroft at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Capitan is facing Cloudcroft at the right time seeing as Cloudcroft is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mescalero Apache at 6:00 p.m. Mescalero Apache will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mesilla Valley Christian School surely won't give up without a fight.
