Basketball Recap: Evan Sickmiller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pleasant over St. Clairsville

On Saturday, the Pleasant Spartans were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 62-56 to the St. Clairsville Red Devils. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Red Devils are ranked 107th).

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Sickmiller, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Alec Columber was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Pleasant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Pleasant's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-4. As for St. Clairsville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Pleasant and Galion will round out the year against one another at at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Clairsville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-52 victory against Cambridge on the 23rd.
