Preview: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. Independence Eagles

Smyrna is 0-5 against Independence since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smyrna Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Independence Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Smyrna will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Thursday, Smyrna earned a 33-21 win over Cane Ridge.

Smyrna had a senior duo take command as Thomas Jones gained 131 total yards and three touchdowns and Austin Morris threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. Jones' longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards. Smyrna also got help from Tyreque Mccarver who showed off his sure hands for 90 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Independence lost to Summit on the road by a decisive 32-17 margin on Friday. Independence has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Smyrna's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-4. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Cane Ridge, Antioch, and McGavock. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Smyrna ended up a good deal behind Independence in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, losing 28-10. Can Smyrna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
