San Mateo took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Aragon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The San Mateo Bearcats narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Aragon Dons 3-2. This was payback for the Bearcats, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

San Mateo was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (107-99), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 10-25, 20-25, 29-27, 25-20, 15-10.

Despite the loss, Aragon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Peyton Chiang had 13 digs and three aces. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Chiang. Cameron Ngai also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.

San Mateo's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-5. As for Aragon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Looking ahead, San Mateo will square off against Jefferson at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The last three games San Mateo has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Aragon, they have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against The Nueva School on the 15th.
