Basketball Recap: Suffolk Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was a good run, but Suffolk Christian Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 40-27 to the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators. The Knights were not able to make up for their loss to the Gators from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Greenbrier Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Katelyn Balka, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 17 boards, and 11 blocks. The dominant performance gave Balka a new career-high in boards. Callie Ewell was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

Suffolk Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Suffolk Christian Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ahoskie Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Ahoskie Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Greenbrier Christian Academy also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Atlantic Shores Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Greenbrier Christian Academy's defense has only allowed 23 points per game this season, so Atlantic Shores Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
