Basketball Game Preview: Steinbrenner Warriors vs. East Lake Eagles

Steinbrenner hasn't had much luck against East Lake recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Steinbrenner Warriors will take on the East Lake Eagles at 7:30 p.m. East Lake took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Steinbrenner, who comes in off a win.

Steinbrenner is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hollins 54-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Douglas Jordan was a one-man wrecking crew for Steinbrenner as he went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. Jordan has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Griffin, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Steinbrenner was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, East Lake came up short against Gibbs on Saturday and fell 75-64. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Gladiators are ranked 11th).

Steinbrenner will have to keep a close watch on Jordan Bryant and Andre Willis, a pair of players who had a big impact on East Lake's prior game. Bryant dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards, while Willis went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Willis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Cooper, who had ten points.

Steinbrenner's victory bumped their record up to 8-18. As for East Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-7.

Steinbrenner lost to East Lake on the road by a decisive 70-53 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Steinbrenner, Henry Hurst Jr. (who went 10 for 17 on his way to 25 points along with eight rebounds and five assists) won't be suiting up this time.
