Softball Recap: Melbourne Triumphs

Melbourne barely beat Bayside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bears a 9-0 shutout on Monday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Layna Ayala, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Ella Sutliff was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Melbourne hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayside struck out 11 times.

Melbourne's record now sits at 10-13. As for Bayside, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-9.

Coming up, Melbourne will square off against Rockledge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bayside, they will face off against Morningside Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Bears have won three straight at home, while the Eagles won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
