Basketball Recap: Ash Fork Comes Up Short

Ash Fork lost against Red Mesa back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Ash Fork Spartans took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Mesa Redskins.

Red Mesa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shyla Pipkin led the charge by putting up 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Pipkin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Ashley Jones was another key player, going 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Ash Fork's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Red Mesa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.

Ash Fork will square off against Joseph City at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ash Fork's defense has only allowed 28.3 points per game this season, so Joseph City's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Red Mesa, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-37 victory against Gilbert Classical Academy on the 28th.
