Recap: Round Valley Elks vs. St. Johns Redskins
If the Round Valley Elks were riding high off their 54-28 takedown of the Morenci Wildcats last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Round Valley fell 47-39 to St. Johns on Wednesday. Round Valley has not had much luck with St. Johns recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Round Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Harli Haws, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Haws hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Brenli Haws was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
St. Johns can attribute much of their success to Elli Otto, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Otto has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Heap, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Round Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for St. Johns, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.
Round Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Hopi at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopi is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for St. Johns, they will head out on the road to square off against Phoenix Country Day at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Phoenix Country Day is ranked 19th, while St. Johns is ranked 20th).
