Baseball Recap: Lyford Extends Winning Streak to Four

Lyford had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They blew past the Progreso Red Ants 17-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-8 last Saturday.

Diego Medina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, John Reyna was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josiah Palmer, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lyford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .525 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Lyford pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Progreso, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
