Volleyball Recap: Kalida Falls Despite Big Games from Sophie Vorst and Gwen Stechschulte

Kalida entered their match against Leipsic on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wildcats fell 3-1 to the Vikings. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Kalida started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-22.

Gwen Stechschulte and Sophie Vorst certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Stechschulte had four digs and two aces, while Vorst had four aces and two assists.

Kalida's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Leipsic, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Kalida and Leipsic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Wildcats will square off against Columbus Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (122 vs. 325). Meanwhile, Leipsic (ranked 40th) will meet McComb (ranked 437th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
