Claiborne gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Campbell County Cougars. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 11-7 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2019.
Garrett Keiter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Keiter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Claiborne let Sam Wilson and Kaleb Painter run wild. Wilson scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Painter scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Painter a new career-high.
Looking ahead, Claiborne will be playing in front of their home fans against Harlan at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Campbell County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Fulton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
