Basketball Recap: KIPP San Jose Collegiate Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jonathan Mendoza and Christian Ademe-Johnson

KIPP San Jose Collegiate saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 43-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Point Arena Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 900th, while the Pirates are ranked 339th).

Despite the defeat, KIPP San Jose Collegiate had strong showings from Christian Ademe-Johnson, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Jonathan Mendoza, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. That was a full 38.2% of KIPP San Jose Collegiate's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Tosh Mouton was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds for Point Arena. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Lopez, who put up 13 points and six rebounds.

KIPP San Jose Collegiate has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Point Arena, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

KIPP San Jose Collegiate wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-34 loss against KIPP SF College Prep on the 14th. As for Point Arena, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-47 win against Bentley on the 14th.
