The Christ the King Cathedral Golden Lions will face off against the Annapolis Christian Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Christ the King Cathedral's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Holy Cross Catholic Academy, posting a 60-0 victory. The Golden Lions' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Christ the King Cathedral's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Sisneros, who picked up 50 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. Sisneros also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble, making 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defending one pass. Another player making a difference was Matthew Sisneros, who threw for 96 yards and three TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes.
Christ the King Cathedral didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dalton Drake, Ethan Blazek, and Sisneros picked up one apiece. Drake got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Annapolis Christian Academy over Valor South Austin in every quarter on their way to victory last Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Warriors blew the Falcons out of the water with a 71-30 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Warriors had established a 28-point advantage.
Christ the King Cathedral better keep an eye on Xavier Lockyer. He was instrumental in Annapolis Christian Academy's win, picking up 80 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also punching in one score on the ground. Those 80 receiving yards gave Lockyer a new career-high.
Annapolis Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
One reason for the win was Annapolis Christian Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Lockyer with two. Jack Martinez was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 12 total tackles.
Annapolis Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Christ the King Cathedral, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
