Baseball Recap: Norwich Free Academy Comes Up Short

Norwich Free Academy had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the West Haven Blue Devils by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since April 10th.

As for West Haven, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

For West Haven's part, Connor Hume spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. Hume has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jose Padilla was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Haven's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't).

As of now, neither Norwich Free Academy nor the Blue Devils have any future games scheduled.
