Baseball Recap: Jay Drops Season-High Score on Destin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jay). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Destin Sharks a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Brady Godwin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also launched a home run, which is notable because Jay is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 9-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Grayson Shehan was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jax Lowery, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Jay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Jay and bumps their season record up to 12-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Destin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Jay will square off against Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Destin, they will face off against Paxton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
