Softball Game Preview: Valhalla Norsemen vs. Santana Sultans

Valhalla is 0-10 against Santana since May of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Norsemen will face off against the Sultans at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Valhalla is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Monday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Coronado.

Devyn Mack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Natalia Marco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Preslee Fink was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Santana came up short against West Hills on Friday and fell 8-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Sultans in their meetings with the Wolf Pack: they've now lost three in a row.

Emma Schneider made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brynn Warren, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

Santana's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Valhalla, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-19.

Valhalla might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Santana in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Norsemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
