Volleyball Recap: Effingham Hearts vs. Edwards County Lions
Effingham was the 2-1 winner over Edwards County when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hearts fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. While the Hearts didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 25-19 in the first set.
Effingham started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Mckenzie Love paced Effingham's offense, picking up 16 kills. Love got some help from Berkley Pullen and her 20 assists. Alyssa Martin controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
This is the second loss in a row for Effingham and nudges their season record down to 19-13. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 19-12 Newton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75.8% over those games). As for Edwards County, their victory bumped their record up to 28-3.
Effingham didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield on the 18th. As for Edwards County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Newton on the 18th.
