Basketball Recap: Marshall Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Marshall Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 58-53 W against the Will Carleton Academy Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Griffons: when they faced off against the Cougars on February 4th, they had to take a 49-36 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marshall Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Oscar Melendez, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 18 points and four steals. Melendez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Patterson, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Marshall Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Will Carleton Academy, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 17-5.

Looking ahead, Marshall Academy will face off against Calhoun Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Will Carleton Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
