Baseball Recap: Chester Takes a Loss

Chester extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They came up short against the Los Molinos Bulldogs, falling 16-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in April.

Chester saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Gerbatz, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Gerbatz has become a key player for the Volcanoes: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

As for Los Molinos, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Los Molinos' side, Izick Nelson made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Nelson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyson Button, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Karson Fox, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Chester didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Plumas Charter on the 7th. As for Los Molinos, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 24-0 victory against Burney on the 9th.
