Softball Game Preview: Lapeer Lightning vs. Lake Fenton Blue Devils

The Lapeer Lightning will square off against the Lake Fenton Blue Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lapeer has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Lake Fenton will come in with five straight victories.

On Thursday, Lapeer came up short against Central and fell 8-5.

Mattie Tracy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Breana Fantin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Lake Fenton faced Goodrich in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Blue Devils beat the Martians by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4.

The team relied heavily on Mia Merrell (2027), who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laureena Baehl (2027), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Lake Fenton's win was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Lapeer, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
