Basketball Recap: AJ Grate's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Waccamaw over Dillon

If Waccamaw was riding high fresh off their 70-48 takedown of Aynor last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between the Waccamaw Warriors and the Dillon Wildcats didn't end well, with the Waccamaw Warriors falling 67-48. The Warriors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was AJ Grate, who posted eight points and four steals. Grate has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sutton Cooper, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Waccamaw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Dillon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamarion Fling out in front who put up 13 points and three steals. S Taylor was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Waccamaw's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Dillon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Marlboro County the next time they take the court. Dillon will host Marlboro County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Waccamaw will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
