Recap: St. Francis Spartans vs. St. Laurence Vikings
The St. Francis Spartans entered their tilt with the St. Laurence Vikings with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St. Francis walked away with a 50-40 win over St. Laurence on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given St. Francis' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while St. Laurence is ranked fourth).
It was another big night for Riley Austin, who scored 22 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of St. Francis' points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Doyle, who scored 5 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
St. Francis' victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for St. Laurence, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-1.
St. Francis will face off against IC Catholic Prep at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. IC Catholic Prep is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for St. Laurence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lockport at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
