Basketball Recap: Jason Aguilar Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat San Antonio Christian

The third road game was the charm for St. Joseph Academy, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They snuck past the San Antonio Christian Lions with a 47-43 win on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Bloodhounds have beaten the Lions on their court since January 24, 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Joseph Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Aguilar, who went 7-for-17 to rack up 20 points and four steals. Aguilar has become a key player for the Bloodhounds: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 15 points, but 0-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luisalfonso Zolezzi, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

St. Joseph Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. As for San Antonio Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. St. Joseph Academy will head out to face off against Lopez at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bloodhounds will be up against the Lobos' rather soft defense (which has allowed 63.38 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for San Antonio Christian, they will square off against MacArthur at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions' defense better be ready for this one: the Brahmas have averaged an impressive 52.1 points per game this season.
