Soccer Game Preview: Mercer Island vs. Liberty

The Mercer Island Islanders will challenge the Liberty Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Mercer Island is headed into Thursday's match following a draw, the team's first since April 8. They and Newport - Bellevue finished up their contest with a 2-2 draw on Thursday.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Sammamish get on the board and left with a 5-0 win on Monday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for Liberty considering their one-goal performance the game before.

Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those four contests. Mercer Island's draw gives them a new season record of 7-3-3.

Mercer Island beat Liberty by a goal in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 2-1. Will the Islanders repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
