Football Recap: Maranatha Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Maranatha extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 7-3. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 win over the Whittier Christian Heralds. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Minutemen have posted since October 11, 2024.

Cooper Berry had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 198 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 140 yards on only 12 carries. Those 140 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Morgan Freeman also helped out as he racked up 106 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Maranatha was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

As for Whittier Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. The close contest was extra heartbreaking for they, who almost overcame a 22 point deficit.

Whittier Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Josepablo Gutierrez, who picked up 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Caden Hogan, who threw for 197 yards and four TDs on only 17 passes. Gutierrez's longest reception was for an incredible 84 yards.

Maranatha wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 42-28 loss against Baldwin Park on the 7th. Whittier Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
