Baseball Recap: Campbell Drops Season-High Score on Saltillo

Campbell made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Saltillo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Campbell was the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over Saltillo on Monday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Drake Sweeney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Campbell is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-9-2 otherwise. Sweeney was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayan Cruz Garcia, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Noah Vasquez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Campbell's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10-2. As for Saltillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
